Free, really

Free email signature generators with no watermark: who actually qualifies

The dirty secret of 'free' signature generators: many stamp their own brand under your name, turning every email you send into their ad. Here is who does and doesn't — verified against live pricing pages in July 2026. ProSignature is ours; it qualifies, and we show the others that do too.

Why 'free' so often means 'watermarked'

A signature travels in every email you send, which makes it prime advertising space — for you, or for the tool you built it with. Freemium signature products know this: the free tier adds a 'Created with…' line or badge under your signature, and removing it is the paid upgrade. There is nothing evil about that model, but a professional emailing clients should know what they're shipping: a watermark under a lawyer's or consultant's signature quietly says 'I used the free tier.' The fix costs nothing — several tools, ours included, are genuinely watermark-free on the free plan.

The market, watermark by watermark (verified July 2026)

ProSignature — no watermark on free (our product)

The free plan's signature carries your name and brand only — no badge, no 'created with' line. Includes automatic brand import from your website and one-click Gmail install. Pro adds premium templates, not watermark removal — there is nothing to remove.

HubSpot's free generator — no watermark

Honest credit where due: HubSpot's free signature tool adds no branding. It is a copy-paste workflow with no saved account, no team option and occasional image detaching — but the output is clean.

Maileroo — no watermark

A newer free tool that is genuinely watermark-free with a drag-and-drop builder. No one-click Gmail install and no team management, but a fair pick for a quick clean signature.

WiseStamp — watermark on free

The free online generator appends WiseStamp branding to your signature; removing it requires the paid product (Pro+ from $9/month billed annually, verified July 2026). Details in our head-to-head.

MySignature — branding on free

The free tier includes one basic signature with MySignature branding; 'no MySignature branding' is listed as a paid-plan feature (Core $6/user/month billed yearly, verified July 2026). More in our MySignature alternative guide.

Newoldstamp — no free tier at all

Not watermarked — because there is no usable free plan: the 7-day trial lets you design signatures but 'you won't be able to start using the signatures until you upgrade' (its own pricing page, July 2026). Plans from $109/year for 5 signatures.

The other 'free' traps to check

A watermark is the visible catch; two quieter ones matter more. Hosted-asset expiry: if your signature's images live on the vendor's servers and stop working when you cancel — MySignature's FAQ says exactly that — your signature dies with the subscription. Prefer tools whose free output keeps working. Feature-gated basics: some free tiers cap you below a usable signature (no logo upload, one social icon) to force the upgrade. Our rule for judging any tool, ours included: build the signature, send yourself an email, and check what a client would actually see — the best-practices checklist takes two minutes.

Get a clean, unwatermarked signature in four steps

  1. Enter your work email at the free generator — logo, brand colors and social links import from your website automatically.
  2. Pick a template — every preview shows YOUR brand, and none of them will ever show ours.
  3. Add your details, a call-to-action if you want one, and check the live Gmail-style preview.
  4. Click Connect Gmail & install — free, watermark-free, done. Outlook and Apple Mail get clean copy-paste HTML.

What 'no watermark' actually looks like

The clearest way to show this is simply to show it.

Startup founder email signature example with photo and a see-what-we-are-building link
A signature built on the free plan. There is no badge, no 'created with' line and no link back to us anywhere in the block.
Minimal black-and-white email signature example with photo, title and contact details
The same on a minimal layout. Compare against any free tier that appends its own branding — the difference is one line that advertises someone else on every email you send.

Who wrote this, and how it is kept accurate

Written and maintained by the ProSignature team. We build ProSignature, which appears in this comparison — so treat it as a vendor source and judge the reasoning rather than the ranking. We think a vendor who shows their working and names the cases where a competitor wins is more useful than one who does not, but you should weigh it accordingly.

Our editorial rules, in full:

  • Every competitor price and feature claim is checked against that company's own live pricing page on the day of writing, and the date is printed on the page. Last verified: 26 July 2026.
  • If we could not verify a figure that day, we name the tool and omit the number rather than repeating it from another listicle.
  • We state explicitly where a competitor is the better choice — for example Exclaimer for IT-administered fleets above roughly 25 mailboxes.
  • No affiliate links, anywhere on this site. Nobody pays us for placement and no vendor reviews these pages before publication.
  • We do not publish invented ratings, incentivised reviews or unsubstantiated superlatives.

Found something out of date or wrong? It probably is — pricing changes constantly. Tell us and we will correct it. More about the company and how we work: About ProSignature.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I create an email signature without a watermark?

Pick a tool whose free tier adds no branding, then verify it: build the signature, email it to yourself, and look underneath your details for a 'created with' line or badge. ProSignature's free plan is watermark-free by design; HubSpot's free generator adds no branding either. If you already have a watermarked signature, rebuilding it takes about a minute — there is nothing to migrate.

Which email signature generators are free with no watermark?

Verified July 2026: ProSignature (our product), HubSpot's free generator and Maileroo produce unwatermarked signatures on their free tiers. WiseStamp and MySignature add their own branding on free; Newoldstamp has no usable free tier.

Does ProSignature add a watermark to free signatures?

No. The free plan's signature contains only your own name, brand and links — no badge or 'created with' line. The paid plans add premium templates and team features, not watermark removal.

Why do some tools watermark free signatures?

Because every email you send is free advertising for them. It's a legitimate freemium model — but a professional should choose it knowingly, since the watermark reads as 'free tier' to every client you email.

Is a watermarked signature unprofessional?

It isn't fatal, but it undercuts the point of a polished signature: presenting your brand. Given genuinely-free unwatermarked options exist, there's no reason to carry someone else's logo under your name.

What should I check besides watermarks?

Whether the signature keeps working if you stop paying (hosted images can expire), whether install is one-click or fragile copy-paste, and whether the free tier includes a logo and enough fields for a complete professional signature.
