Gmail signature examples that survive Gmail

Most signature galleries show you designs. This one shows you designs alongside the reason they hold up specifically in Gmail — which strips style blocks, keeps separate mobile settings and blocks images by default.

Six Gmail signature examples, and what each one teaches

These are real renders from the ProSignature editor — the exact HTML that lands in a Gmail inbox, not a design mockup. Each was chosen for something it demonstrates about how Gmail specifically behaves.

The layout Gmail renders most reliably

Photo left, details right, one button underneath — built from a table, so it holds together in Gmail's web view, the Gmail mobile app and in recipients' Outlook. If you want one safe default, this is it.

Short enough to survive a long thread

Gmail collapses quoted text but your signature repeats at every level of a reply chain. A two-line block stays readable on the eighth message; a tall one becomes a wall.

A button that is real HTML, not an image

Gmail shows this button even with images disabled, because it is a styled table cell rather than a picture. Image-based buttons vanish for every recipient who blocks images by default.

Logo-led, sized for Gmail's rendering

The logo is hosted and carries explicit width and height, so Gmail reserves the space while it loads and nothing jumps. Dragging a file in instead usually sends it as an attachment.

A banner you can swap without touching the signature

Gmail treats the banner as just another hosted image, so changing a campaign means changing one image — not rebuilding the block in Gmail's settings every time.

A disclaimer that stays legible in Gmail

Smaller, muted type below a divider. Gmail strips style blocks, so this only holds up because the sizing and colour are inline on the element itself.

The four rules Gmail imposes on every signature

Gmail is not a browser, and a signature that ignores that arrives broken no matter how good the design was.

It strips <style> blocks

Only inline style attributes on the elements themselves survive. This is the single biggest reason a signature that looked perfect elsewhere arrives as unstyled text.

Web and mobile are separate signatures

The Gmail mobile app keeps its own, plain-text-only signature that overrides your rich web one on phone-sent mail. Details in changing your Gmail signature.

Images are remote and often blocked

They must be hosted over HTTPS with no login, sized with explicit width and height. The signature has to still make sense with every image off — which is why text must never live inside a picture.

Long threads get clipped

Gmail truncates very long messages behind a “view entire message” link. A heavy signature repeated down a thread pushes real content past that line, so keep the block light — see image sizes.

Copy-paste is where most Gmail signatures die

Almost every broken Gmail signature has the same cause: it was pasted. The clipboard drops inline styling, Gmail's editor re-wraps the layout to fit its own structure, and hosted images sometimes detach on the way through — so the design you approved is not the one that sends. The alternative is writing the signature directly into Gmail's settings through Google's API, which skips the clipboard entirely: the exact HTML you previewed is what Gmail stores. That is how ProSignature's one-click install works, and it is the first thing worth checking in any tool you evaluate — does the signature reach Gmail without being pasted? If you would rather do it by hand, the manual route is in adding a signature in Gmail, and broken images are diagnosed in this guide.

Build and install one in four steps

  1. Enter your work email at the free generator — your logo, brand colours and social links import from your website automatically.
  2. Pick the layout closest to the example above that fits how you work; every template previews with your own brand.
  3. Adjust the details — role line, photo or logo size, one call-to-action, an optional banner.
  4. Click Connect Gmail & install. It is written into Gmail's settings via Google's API — open a compose window and it is already there.

Then set the replies default too: Gmail treats new mail and replies separately, and leaving replies on “No signature” is the most common reason a signature seems to vanish mid-thread.

More examples by audience

If you want layouts chosen for a particular situation rather than for Gmail's rendering: the small business gallery covers owner-operators and small teams, the full examples gallery has sixteen designs with an anatomy breakdown, and the profession guides — real estate, law, therapy, accounting and others — carry the specific fields each trade needs.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a good email signature for Gmail?

One built from inline-styled, table-based HTML with hosted, correctly sized images — because Gmail strips style blocks and blocks remote images by default. Keep it to about six lines so it stays readable when repeated down a reply thread.

Why does my Gmail signature look different from the design?

Almost always copy-paste: the clipboard drops inline styles and Gmail's editor re-wraps the layout. Installing directly into Gmail's settings through Google's API avoids it entirely.

Can I use these Gmail signature examples for free?

Yes — any of these layouts can be rebuilt on the free plan with your own brand and installed into Gmail in one click, with no watermark.

Why is my signature missing on replies in Gmail?

Gmail sets signature defaults for new mail and for replies separately. If the replies dropdown is on “No signature”, it appears on new messages only.

Do Gmail signatures work on the mobile app?

The Gmail mobile app keeps its own plain-text signature that overrides the rich web one for mail sent from the phone. Set a short plain version there, or clear it where possible.
